Some dogs have stories that stay with you long after you hear them, and Kamala is one of those dogs.
Kamala is a beautiful 2-year-old, 34-pound Chocolate Labrador Retriever mix who has experienced more hardship in her short life than any dog ever should. But despite everything she's been through, she remains one of the sweetest, gentlest, most loving girls you could ever hope to meet. ❤️
And now, after waiting so patiently, it's finally Kamala's turn to find the forever home she deserves.
Kamala's journey hasn't been an easy one.
This sweet girl was abandoned while she was in heat along a feeding route, where volunteers regularly provided food to dogs in need. During that time, Kamala was reportedly attacked by several other dogs, leaving her with injuries, including a fracture that has since healed.
We can't imagine how frightening and confusing that experience must have been for her. She was vulnerable, alone, and simply trying to survive.
But what makes Kamala's story so remarkable isn't just what she's overcome. It's the incredibly gentle, trusting, and loving dog she continues to be despite it all. 🥹
Kamala has a beautiful temperament. She's sweet, calm, affectionate, and exceptionally well-behaved. She's the kind of dog who doesn't need to be the center of attention or have a big, exciting adventure every single day. Sometimes, the simplest things mean the most: a comfortable place to rest, a little affection, a peaceful walk, and knowing she's finally safe.
She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and people, which is especially meaningful considering what she's experienced in her past. Rather than letting those experiences define her, Kamala continues to show the world just how much love she has to give.
We also want to be completely transparent about Kamala's medical history because we believe the right family will see her for the incredible dog she is, not simply the injuries she's overcome.
Kamala has an old fracture that occasionally causes her to limp, particularly after she's been running or playing for an extended period. Sometimes, when she's tired, she may hold her paw up for a little while.
The wonderful news? Kamala recently had another veterinary evaluation, and her veterinarian confirmed that she does not need surgery for her old fracture! ❤️
According to her veterinarian, she is not currently experiencing pain from the injury, and it does not prevent her from living a normal, happy life.
Kamala can still enjoy walks, spend time outside, play, explore, and experience all the wonderful things that come with being a beloved family dog. Her future family will simply need to be mindful of her occasional limp, recognize when she needs a little rest, and continue to monitor her comfort as she ages.
We know the words special needs can sometimes make potential adopters hesitate. But we hope families will look beyond that label and see what's right in front of them.
Kamala is not defined by her old injury. She's a loving, gentle, beautiful dog who happens to have a little reminder of everything she's survived.
She doesn't need someone to feel sorry for her. She needs someone who will love her, appreciate her wonderful personality, and give her the stability and security she's been missing.
At just two years old, Kamala has so much life ahead of her. So many walks to take, sunny afternoons to enjoy, comfortable beds to curl up in, and memories to make with a family of her very own.
